The Call of Jesus Christ
The first verse identifies a unique aspect of Jesus Christ.
The second verse are the words of Jesus Christ that call to His children to come to Him, be saved, learn from Him, and spend forever with Him.
Scripture references correspond with the first or second part of the paragraph.
Rivers of Living Water
The One who counts the stars and calls them by name says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” Psalms 147:4, Jeremiah 1:5
The One who slays Leviathan says, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” Isaiah 27:1, Jeremiah 33:3
The One who is the true vine says, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” John 15:1-8, Luke 11:9-13
The One who is the great I AM says, “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.” John 8:58, Luke 6:27-36
The One who died on a cross and rose three days later says, “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” Matthew 27:32-55, Matthew 28:1-8, John 7:38
The One who turned water into wine says, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
John 2:1-10, Isaiah 41:10
Do Not Be Afraid
The One who is the resurrection and the life says, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 11:25, John 3:3
The One who was born in a stable and laid in a manger says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Luke 2:1-7, Matthew 11:28-30
The One who has come as a light into the world says, “Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith? And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” John 12:46, Luke 12:22-34
The One who raised Lazarus from the dead says, “Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” John 11:38-44, Luke 6:37-38
The One who overcame the world says, “My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him! Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” John 16:33, Luke 12:4-7
Take Heed
The One who created Adam and Eve says, “Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. Truly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all that he has. But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. And that servant who knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask all the more.” Genesis 1:26-28, Genesis 2:18-25, Luke 12:42-48
The One who is called Teacher and Lord says, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” John 13:13, Luke 18:16-17
The One who is the way, the truth, and the life says, “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” John 14:6, Luke 13:1-5
The One who raised the widow’s son says, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels. But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God.” Luke 7:11-15, Luke 9:23-27
The One who was betrayed by His friend says, “But of that day and hour (the second coming of Jesus Christ) no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming—in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning— lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!” Mark 14:10-11, Mark 13:32-37
The Narrow Gate
The One who was mocked and beaten by Roman soldiers says, “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.” Matthew 27:27-31, Matthew 25:13
The One who sweat drops of blood says, “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.” Luke 22:41-44, Matthew 12:31-32
The One who fed the 4000 says, “The kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.” Matthew 15:32-39, Matthew 13:45-46
The One who will come again in a cloud with power and great glory says, “Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and, ‘The time has drawn near.’ Therefore do not go after them. But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be terrified; for these things must come to pass first, but the end will not come immediately. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake. But it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony. Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer; for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist. You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But not a hair of your head shall be lost. By your patience you will possess your souls.” Luke 21:27, Luke 21:8-19
The One who died next to two criminals even though He was innocent says, “It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him.” Luke 23:32-43, Luke 17:1-4
The One who was transfigured on the Mount says, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Matthew 17:1-13, Matthew 7:13-14
Whoever Confesses Me
The One who is the bread of life says, “When you give a dinner or a supper, do not ask your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid. But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just.” John 6:35, Luke 14:12-14
The One whose face was beaten beyond recognitions says, “Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you, and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of Man’s sake. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, for in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.” Isaiah 52:14, Luke 6:20-23
The One who fed the 5000 in the wilderness says, “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.” Matthew 14:13-21, Matthew 5:44-45
The One who was betrayed by the kiss of a friend says, “Whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God. But he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God. And anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven. Now when they bring you to the synagogues and magistrates and authorities, do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you should say. For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” Luke 22:48, Luke 12:8-12
Surrender Your Heart
The One who turned fishermen into fishers of men says, “With God all things are possible.” Mark 1:16, Matthew 19:26
The One who predicted the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem says, “Immediately after the tribulation of those days (the End Times) the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” Mark 13:1-2, Matthew 24:29-31
The One who did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many says, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Mark 10:41-45, Matthew 28:18-20
The One who stands at the door and knocks says, “Open the door and I will dine with you and you with Me.” Revelation 3:20
The One who raised the little girl from the dead says, “Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power.” Mark 5:21-43, Revelation 20:6
The One who commands the winds and the sea, and they obey Him says, when you believe in Me, you will be born again and say, it is well with my soul. Matthew 8:27, John 3:3, Psalm 42:7-8
The One who created the heavens and the earth yet speaks with us in a gentle whisper says, Give Me your hand in marriage. You will be My bride when you surrender your heart and say yes. Genesis chapters 1 & 2, 1 Kings 19:12, Revelation 19:7
Do I need to tell you that “The One” who is Jesus Christ, loves you so much He stretched out His hands and died, so that you could be with Him in heaven when this life is over?
"I saw a new heaven and a new earth,
for the first heaven and the first earth
had passed away."
Revelation 21:1
