Different Roads

Our Last Story

Have you ever been awake at 3 o’clock in the morning, thinking about the friends that mean so much to you?  Perhaps you don’t remember each person’s name in the moment, but the gift of their presence lingers with you even when they don’t.

As we walk the road of this life, we build friendships, special treasures that bless us, each in their time and each in their season.  Those treasures may not always be with us in person, but they do dwell in our hearts always.

The Orchestra of Their Lives

Just as vibrant as our closest friends, is the family that shares so much of life with us.  Mothers, brothers, sisters, grandparents, cousins, nieces and nephews, aunts, and uncles.  Each family structure is unique but those people define what we call family.

Families share ups and downs, sometimes silent years, and often, conversations that remind us they have been great traveling companions through this epic journey called life.

Whether friend or family, each person is a song that plays endlessly in our hearts, filling us with joy and love, as the orchestra of their lives touch the deepest parts of our spirit and soul.

The Road of Forever

I cannot speak for you, but as I think about my own friends and family, I realize that life has never been about the things I have.  The true value of life are the people who have walked with me and shared the road of my journey.

Looking back, I am grieved at the time I’ve wasted in not praying for those who have meant so much to me when I had them in their season.  And too often I forget to tell them just what they mean to me.  Will I see those who have had such an impact on me in the next life??  Those who God has blessed my life with are the only treasures I want with me when I take my final step on the road of forever.

What Wounds

When I face the end, then know that I will go forward in fear and in faith.

I am not afraid of the life to come.  I have never been more certain of anything than I am of Jesus Christ and the existence of Heaven.  The God who saved me from the path of darkness and death has been with me all these years.  I have seen so many proofs of a living and loving God.  If you knew what I know, then you would believe too.

When this life ends, I will take the path forward in faith.  At the moment my steps in life come to an end here, I know they will continue beyond the vale as I enter heaven with Jesus Christ.

My fear is not for me.  It is for the ones I cherish so deeply.  I am grieved that I did not do a better job of sharing my faith in Jesus Christ with them.  How can I go to heaven knowing that I failed in communicating the message of eternal life in Jesus Christ and they won’t be there?  What wounds will I carry there from my failures with them here?

Jesus Christ Gave Everything

Even though there are so many people in our lives, the path we walk is a singular journey.  Yes, that journey is filled with souls that add to us and too often take from us, but in the end, when we walk through the shroud that separates this life from the next, no one will be with us.  We will be left alone with the choices we made in this life.  Our last story will be those choices that either stand up for us at the moment we need them most or testify against us.

We live in a dark world with many distractions.  Cut away those distractions.  If the weight of failure burdens you, then remember, God doesn’t care who you were, He only cares who you are.  Forget what lies behind.  Jesus Christ gave everything so that you could live forever with Him.  How much does His heart have to bleed for you to accept His Gift?

Each of us are on different roads and that is ok.  My hope and prayer are that our road leads to the same destination.  Please seek Jesus Christ.  Ask Him to show Himself to you.  He will NEVER let you down.

I am on the path of Forever and will never die.  That road was revealed to me 41 years ago.  May you too, discover that path and may that road always be lighted for you.  I will be waiting for you on the other side.
